How Invisalign Works

Invisalign uses clear aligners that are crafted from digital impressions taken of your smile. Delivered as a set, they follow the progression your teeth will take as they move toward their ideal position. Invisalign is designed to be worn 20-22 hours a day so that continuous, yet gentle pressure is placed onto teeth, encouraging them to move accordingly. After 1-2 weeks of wear, you will switch out your current trays for the next ones in the series, keeping your smile moving in the right direction.
Throughout treatment, you will be required to maintain regular follow-up appointments with Dr. Patrino so that he can review your progress and minimize any potential problems along the way.
How Invisalign Can Help

Although the goal is the same for both Invisalign and metal braces – a straighter smile – clear aligners are an ideal alternative if you have a mild to moderate case of overcrowding, crooked or gapped teeth, or bite misalignment (i.e., overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite).
The Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign presents many unique benefits that cannot be achieved with traditional metal braces, such as:
- A discreet form of orthodontic treatment with trays that are made of clear plastic, so others are unlikely to notice them.
- Greater flexibility because the trays must be removed before eating or drinking. Instead of picking food out of your braces, you can avoid the problem altogether by removing your aligners ahead of time.
- Easy maintenance because Invisalign only requires a soft-bristled toothbrush, lukewarm water, and clear soap to be properly cleaned.
- Faster results, on average, than metal braces, as Invisalign tends to produce straighter smiles in 12-18 months, while traditional methods can take 2-3 years.
Propel for Invisalign

If faster results are the goal, Dr. Patrino can suggest Propel, which is an FDA-registered device that can speed up your treatment. All that is required is for our team to create small perforations in the bone located near specific teeth. This encourages the bone to begin the remodeling process much quicker so that teeth will shift at a faster rate, leading to a reduced amount of time wearing Invisalign.
